About TC Family Cooperative

What Is Cohousing?

Cohousing is type of intentional community that nurtures social relationships. Households each have a private living space (e.g., apartment or house) and the whole community shares common spaces where they gather to eat, play, hold meetings and more. Cohousing cooperatives are member-owned and member-managed.

What We Do Together

Share Life

We are intentional about our relationships and life together through working together, socializing, sharing meals, etc. We work together to build our physical space and care for it.
Members have the option to cook and eat in the community kitchen and dining hall. Preparing and sharing meals together is a way to enjoy each other’s company as well as share the workload. In addition to meal times, there are many opportunities for social time throughout the day and week.

Raise Kids

Our community is a place for parents to support each other in the challenges of raising children. We collaborate in raising socially and environmentally conscious children. The children play and learn together and form relationships with members of the community. Parents share responsibilities such as child care, carpooling, and teaching skills from gardening to conflict resolution. Community members without young children may also share in some of these responsibilities and opportunities.

Self-Govern

We nurture an atmosphere of trust and respect through open communication and shared decision making where all members participate in the governance of our community. By using consensus to make decisions, every voice is heard and the group collaborates to come up with the best decision. Several small groups, made up of our members, carry out the needs and work of the communities. We see conflict as a natural part of living in a healthy community. We use nonviolent conflict resolution to resolve conflicts.

Care for the Environment

Taking only what we need, leaving plenty for all. Reduce - Reuse - Recycle - Conserve - Compost. We aim to integrate environmental sustainability into our lives in many forms, including in our location choice, our building processes and materials, transportation, how we relate to our land and the soil, plants and animals living on it, and the food we eat in shared meals.

Take Action

We seek out ways to individually and collectively be involved in anti-racist work, within ourselves, our community, and outward into the world.
